Overview
Bardia jungle safari is an exciting wildlife safari in Bardia (Bardiya) National Park Nepal that ranges from 152 m to 1441 m elevation. The tropical animal park covers 968 sq km of land, was established in 1988. It lies 617 km southwest of Kathmandu, spreads in Bardia (Bardiya), Banke, Surkhet districts. It has bordered by the Karnali River to the west, the Churia range with River Babai to the north. Dense tropical with subtropical forest covers 70 % Sal, 30 % savannah, grasslands, riverine trees. Bardiya National Park boasts various threatened wildlife, bird, animals, reptiles, aquatic.
Bardia jungle safari is the second most popular in Nepal for flora fauna, ecosystem lovers. The national park harbours 839 species of vegetation, 407 species of birds with herons, geese, ducks, storks, parakeets, peacocks, Sarus crane, Bengal florican and Silver-Earedmesia. It recorded 53 species of mammals with a wild elephant, swamp deer (110), blackbuck, Royal Bengal Tiger (87), sloth bear, leopard, blue bull, one-horned rhinoceros, monkey. The gharial (Gavialis gangeticus), marsh mugger crocodile, Gangetic Dolphin, snakes, the Large Mahseer fish are in River Karnali. One horn great rhinoceros were translocated from Chitwan National Park in 1986, 1991, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002.
Baghora has a museum and crocodile breeding centre with the swamp deers. Jungle cottages are available for overnight accommodations near the park. This less visited, exciting animal park offers three nights four days of jungle safari, including bird watching, jungle safari, Tharu cultural show, boat ride, jungle walk, fishing program. Annual, 20284 tourists visit the park.
Climate
From October to Early April, remains dry weather with warm days, cool nights. April to June temperature grows up to 45° Celsius. June to September remains monsoon season.
How to get there
Kathmandu to Nepalgunj suggests 50 minutes flight. Local buses from Nepalgunj leaves at 11 am and 2:30 pm to Thakurdwara, which takes 3 hours (95 km). Kathmandu to Ambassa (way to Mahendranagar, 681 km) takes 15 hours by bus (552 km). Afterwards, a jeep reaches Thakurdwara (14 km). Naya bus park Kathmandu leaves a direct bus for Thakurdwara (566 km) at 1 pm, 4 pm (14 hours). The private car can hire from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan for Bardia National Park. Visitors often visit from Indian Border, Banbassa-Mahendranagar and Rupaidiha-Nepalgunj.
Karnali Rafting
Karnali rafting starts with a 30 km jeep drive. It suggests swimming, observe a freshwater Gangetic dolphin.
Elephant Ride
The elephant ride takes the forest with its habitat of Royal Bengal Tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, hog deer, spotted deer, swamp deer, blackbuck, blue bull, monkeys and various plants.
Jungle Walk
Jungle walking with a professional nature guide explore rare animals of the dense forest. Machan (tower) is a comfortable place for wildlife photography. Bring a camera and binoculars to observe endangered animals.
Village Walk
The village walk takes Tharu village with a guide interacting with locals enjoying their typical house, food habit, dress, and culture.
Tharu Cultural Show
Tharu is indigenous people with language, culture, lifestyle. After dinner, the nature guide brings up to watch Tharu cultural show in a hall. They display fantastic stick dances, funny dances, group dances with video.
Itinerary
Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, drive to Bardia National Park
We take 50 minutes scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Our representative meets to you the airport with a jeep, transfer to the Park for 3 hours driving (95 km). Check-in hotel, be refreshed and listen to your program. Stay overnight in Bardia with a meal.
Day 2: Bardia jungle programs
Take a hot breakfast, ride the elephant to observe flora fauna in the National Park. Visit Crocodile Breeding centre, Tharu Cultural museum, Take a hot lunch, continue for a jungle walk to observe beautiful wildlife. Return to the lodge, stay overnight with meals.
Day 3: Bardia jungle programs
Take a hot breakfast, wander to explore the Royal Bengal tiger and birds. Take a lunch, visit near villages. Stay overnight with the meals.
Day 4: Drive to Nepalgunj, later fly to Kathmandu
Take a hot breakfast . free and easy after hot lunch drive to Nepalgunj. Take a scenic flight to Kathmandu.
